This intensive six-day workshop, for actors, voice and speech teachers, clinicians, and voice/speech coaches, carries the innovative techniques of the "Experiencing Speech" workshop into the acquisition of accents (or dialects). The physical focus of Knight-Thompson Speechwork allows actors and other professional voice users to learn accents much faster than with older techniques. Speakers using this approach can speak realistically in the required accent, without exaggeration or self-consciousness. Participants in this accent workshop must first take the introductory "Experience Speech" Workshop. You may take both workshops sequentially from July 10th through July 24th. Our focus will be more on the methodology of accent acquisition than on learning a great number of US regional or foreign accents. Partially this is because we expect that many of the participants will bring a considerable amount of accent expertise to the workshop. But these methods will facilitate both learning and teaching, producing enhanced results for both performer and teacher alike.
